1. Soil enzymes are a type of protein produced by organisms, possessing highly catalytic functions. Under conditions close to room temperature, normal pressure, and moderate acidity, they significantly accelerate the rate of biochemical reactions and exhibit remarkable specificity.

(1) Soil enzymes are a general term for various enzymes present in the soil and are one of the components of soil. Soil enzyme activity includes both the activity of enzymes already accumulated in the soil and the activity of enzymes released into the soil by proliferating microorganisms. They primarily originate from the secretions of cells of animals, plant roots, and microorganisms in the soil, as well as the decomposition products of residues.

(2) Function: To date, approximately 60 types of soil enzyme activities have been measured. These enzymes participate in all biochemical processes in the soil: the synthesis and decomposition of humus; the hydrolysis and transformation of organic compounds, plant and animal residues, and microbial remains; and various oxidation-reduction reactions of organic and inorganic compounds in the soil. These processes are closely related to the release and storage of various nutrient elements in the soil, the formation and development of humus, and the structure and physical condition of the soil. In other words, they are involved in the entire process of soil formation and development, as well as the formation and evolution of soil fertility.
